We’ll be talking about authority next week… What you need to know about authority right now is… If you want to be taken seriously in anything you do, you need to show that you are the authority.
On the Internet, when you have a question, there are typically two websites you go to for answers.
The first is Google, which is the most popular site in the world. You type in your question then low and behold you have pages upon pages of websites there to answer your questions.
The second site is the 6th most popular site in the world. When you have questions and you Google them, Wikipedia is usually within the top 3 positions on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).
Wikipedia is an amazing free online encyclopedia. It’s used by everyone from kids in grammar school looking up facts about dinosaurs to grad students writing their thesis to anyone looking up information about anything… My point is Wikipedia is widely considered THE authority on everything.
Whether it is or not isn’t the point… The general perception from the majority of the people on the planet is that it is.
Wikipedia did something amazing. Back in 2007 they combined a few different question sites together and came up with www.wikianswers.com. What’s neat about WikiAnswers is, anyone can go on it and ask a question… What’s even better is… ANYONE can answer or update those questions.
Now, just because you can answer a question doesn’t mean you can link your site to it. For example, if someone had a question about how to get high authority backlinks… I could respond to the post with a link to this specific blog post.
On the other hand, if someone had a question about catering and I tried to link to this site, I would probably get the boot from WikiAnswers… (I don’t think they regulate as much as Google, but I wouldn’t want to test their boundaries.)
The great thing about WikiAnswers is there are literally thousands of questions about thousands on thousands of different topics. If you see an answer to a question that sucks, go in and edit that answer with your answer… It will show that it was edited by you… making you even more of an authority.
WikiAnswers is an awesome site. Go there once a day and answer a minimum of 3 questions. Make sure your answers are quality. In 1 month you will have over 90 backlinks pointing back at your site from a sub-site of the 6th most popular site in the world… That will make you an authority in the eyes of the search engines…
When someone searches for that specific question, it’s going to pop up on the first page of Google with your answer and your link. People will click through to your site from that answer.
If you aren’t using WikiAnswers to build backlinks and authority… You are defiantly leaving money on the table.

Go to www.wikianswers.com
Click on “Join now”
Type in a username, password and your email address
Accept the community guidelines (I’d suggest you read them first)
Now go to the Bio Page and update your bio, be sure to include a link to your site
A couple of don’ts:
Don’t make your answer into an ad for your site or product
Don’t put up an affiliate link that goes to a landing page or squeeze page
Don’t give dumbass answers like “Go to Google and search…” or ”Wouldn’t you like to know?”
If you do these don’ts… You will likely get your account revoked. Just like in your blogs and blog comments… Quality is key…
